چکیده

Aneurysms of the petro us portion of the the internal carotid artery are quite rare, there having been only 20 such examples previously reported [1 -7]. Although some aneurysms have been bilateral, there has been no report of more than one aneurysm ipsilaterally. Historically many of the reported cases were originally diagnosed as glomus jugulare tumors until angiography and / or operation led to the correct diagnosis. Sometimes surgeons perfoming middle ear exploration (even for suspected vascular tumors) without preoperative angiography had disastrous results [1, 3 , 4]. We report an example of multiple ipsilateral aneurysms of the intrapetrous internal carotid artery diagnosed preoperatively by angiography and offer a postulate for their origin.

Intrapetrous internal carotid artery dissection and essential thrombocythemia: what relationship? A case report

Internal carotid artery (ICA) dissection is responsible for 10-20% of strokes in young and middle-aged patients. Isolated ICA dissection involving the intrapetrous carotid canal is particularly rare, and no case has been reported to describe an association between intrapetrous ICA dissection and essential thrombocythemia. We report a case of ischemic stroke in the presence of intrapetrous right...

CT of petrous carotid aneurysms.

Aneurysms arising from the petrous part of the internal carotid artery (ICA) are exceedingly uncommon. Only 21 angiographically proven cases have appeared in the literature [1-6) . The CT appearance of these rare lesions has not previously been reported. In the two cases described here, the CT pattern closely resembles that of the more common petrous apex meningioma. Consideration of a petrous ...

The patient was a hypertensive and hyperlipidemic old man with history of transient ischemic attack...
